I follow Crystal’s website Money Saving Mom.  I receive daily emails, hourly emails that mention the latest coupon goodies and deals.  Crystal recently published her book The Money Saving Mom’s Budget and it has skyrocketed up the chart on the best sellers list.

Back in December she sent out an email that several websites were hosting giveaways for free copies of her book.  I went to each site, there must have been about 11-12 now that I look back.  I entered each one.  Crystal has such a huge following, thousands of people out there around the world and I had just about given up hope of ever winning anything from her promotions…..

Today in my mailbox there was a notification that I had won from The Frugal Gal’s blog.  Brittany had 5 copies that she was giving away and there were over 1500 entries for the giveaway!!!

While I may be debt free there are sure to enough tips in there on how to save money on couponing and other ways to streamline expenses that I can find useful.  I am so excited!!  If you are interested in trying to win a copy of the book as well, here is a link to Crystal’s site and all the sites that are hosting giveaways: http://moneysavingmom.com/2012/01/enter-to-win-on-of-copies-of-my-book.html  Good Luck!!

Anyone else like to coupon?

I used to coupon about 4 years ago…I would get the coupons from my neighbors, save the ones that we would use and then go buy the item with my coupon….I think the most I ever saved was about 75 dollars on one transaction….

But the days of Aldi came to be and I found that most of the similar type items were available there and so stopped couponing….

These last few months they have been airing a show on Satellite called Extreme Couponing….quite interesting to watch and a little bit much on the entertainment side but it started me thinking about couponing in a realistic sense and showed me how I was not couponing properly the first time.

So I subscribed to my Sunday paper and found some great blogs and forums to help me sort out and figure out how to coupon properly.

Now you have to realize “That Show” is not realistic at all, and it has provided a great many teaching tips to discuss with my daughter about hoarding, donating, leaning on the Lord, food consumption, etc.  I had to laugh when I viewed the episode that aired this week…some lady bought 134 boxes of couscous…something she has never even tasted!!!  Why???  I guess because it was FREE and that was her only consideration….I mean really 134 boxes when you admit you have never eaten something….yikes….I don’t mind not being brand loyal and trying new things when they are on sale so you don’t feel so bad if you don’t like it.

Anyhow though, I have bought a binder, and I save my inserts and keep them whole and then when I receive coupons I file them away in clear plastic pockets so that I can see them.

I just recently went to CVS and started to work with the set up there as well and was really excited to get a package of size 1 Huggies that would be $8.99 for just .52 cents!!!

Now, don’t get me wrong, Aldi’s is still my bottom line, in order for me to buy the item on sale with a coupon that might be doubled, it needs to be cheaper than Aldi’s.  So for the most part 85-90% of my shopping is still done at Aldi’s.

I have found the site: SouthernSavers.com to be really helpful for my section of the country and you might find one in your region of the country as well by doing search for coupon blogs in your area and I have also found Hot Coupon World.com to be really helpful as well.

If you have a goal to save as much as possible on household items and stock up on them…in moderation I might add…not the 100-200 I have seen on some of these shows… then you might consider giving coupons a try and have more money to spend on fresh meats and produces etc.

God Bless~~
