The last of 2010….

Well, here we are with the last post of this year…I am kind of amazed that the end of the year is here already…I kind of was not expecting it to happen this soon.

Today, the Lord blessed me with an extra dose of energy, Thank you so much!!  We made coffee cake this morning to deliver to another lady to take to a 3rd lady at our church who just had a baby girl   Of course in the dash to get out of the house we left the pacifier on the dining room floor and even though I was 3 minutes from the house…that would have been at least a 6 min. delay getting to the drop off location….so off we went…

We rendezvoused at a Food Lion parking lot and exchanged hello’s and laugh’s …and a brief discussion about attending evening services at church tonight….why a discussion…well because service does not start until 9pm and goes until midnight with an intermission half way through…..Did anyone remember that we have 5 children….the youngest…his night time sleeping begins at 8:30pm, my older children…while they could possibly make it for that duration….they are normally in bed by 8:30pm also…..

So we are forgoing said services until they are about 10 years old!!  I will pray in the new year with them in spirit from my house…. Christy….good luck with the pajamas and blankets for your little ones!!!

We then went across town to the bank, cashed our paychecks and went to Michael’s craft store looking for some special glitter for making these branch thingy majigy’s for the end of the month…they didn’t have them….

Then it was off to Hobby Lobby to get these sliver charger plates for the same end of the month project and some little white Christmas lights….I was hoping to get the normal ones at 60% off, however, the normal ones were sold out and I ended up with a slightly different light that looks like a clear pine cone but still tiny…I wonder how that will look on a fake Ficus tree…lol

Over to the Dollar store where I grabbed my dish soap and saw the stash of glass candle holders that I will also need for said project at the end of the month…the Dollar store on my side of the freeway is completely wiped out for the holidays.

Last stop…Aldi’s I love shopping there…in and out in 20 minutes with a complete kitchen full of groceries.

We, the children and I, arrived home with a brief stop through a drive through for lunch and unloaded everything.  The kitchen was slightly chaotic with the remnants of the coffee cake dishes everywhere and now groceries all over the counters .  I tidied up that area, went through the family room and cleaned up….Took a picture or pictures of my dining room….why is that significant….well, because I took everything off of my bookshelf that was supposed to be used for my homeschool stuff….and well, 90% of the stuff, was not homeschool related…so, while I should have taken the picture before I took it off the bookshelf..that would have been nice… You will get the work in progress picture on the dining room table and the nice finished picture of the bookshelf!  All to be posted another time…lol

I then went in and started doing some sewing!!!  Yippee!!! I had bought material for Haley the first week of December because I thought we were going on a trip and she would need the clothes, and that did not happen and so it has sat, looking forlorn waiting to be sewn up….  So the front side of the dress is put together, well front and sides I should say…

I got up from there and now I have sitting next to me about 12 pairs of felt mittens that are about 2.5” in length that I need to finish embroidering together for the project at the end of  the month….

So I feel productive today and there is still daylight left…so who knows what else will get done today…I am looking forward to what the Lord has in store for me for the coming year and I look forward to poignant and concentrated time with Him….

The Day after Christmas

So that little bit of snow from Christmas….turned into this by the day after…it was so gorgeous!!!

 

A neighbor came over to help make a Snowman.

We still have snow on the ground at our house!!

I know, it would have been nice to just leave that last post up forever…and just reflect on that moment non-stop….but alas, life keeps going and so does mine….

We had a really nice simple Christmas. The gifts were opened on Christmas eve.

I love the look on my oldest son her below…the anticipation…just adorable.

I had cooked a huge turkey dinner on Christmas eve so that I did not have to cook on Christmas.  We got up and finally got everyone ready to go and we went in search of snow!!  We were expected to get snow at our house but we knew it would not be enough.  So about an hour away we stopped at one park and I just loved this Dogwood tree…..

We drove further on to the town of Hendersonville and found the Mall parking lot to be the best place for the children to get out, run around and have a huge amount of fun.  There were no other cars there and we didn’t have to worry about anyone getting hurt.

The children always love snow ball fights and trying to get away from daddy.

They took some time to start building a snowman….that soon lost interest….

When we arrived home, it had started to snow…. as you can see it was not anything to play in..this picture was at 9:00pm…so there was snow on Christmas……

This picture was at 12:20am… so it looks as though there was going to be plenty for the day after Christmas!!!

The anticipation of thinking you have been blessed by the Lord and the having to wait are just about unbearable especially when you think you have symptoms that are telling you something wonderful is on the way….

and then the thinking and planning of how to share that news with my husband….makes a creative girl like me go crazy!!!

There was the one option of the knock knock joke….

I asked my daughter when I wrote it if it sounded corny…well she was all freaked out and confused…well plus she had just awakened from a nap….

She was not having anything to do with it and then started to cry so I had to go talk to her in her bedroom and find out what was wrong… she was confused and I explained we were having a baby and her eyes got huge and she said for real and I said yes… but to be quiet and not tell her brothers in the other room yet….I was afraid they would blurt it out to daddy….

But she was not up for that…the singing part….drats…next plan…….

Then daddy called and said he was on the way home…..I texted back to see if it would be possible to go out to dinner….

he said sure….I was all for celebrating!!!!

Daddy arrived home, and we gathered up the children, I changed into a nice shirt, re-did the hair, put on a little lipstick…didn’t need any blush…couldn’t quite hide the flush on my cheeks if I tried!!

 

Haley came back to me right before getting in the car….ok I’ll sing the song…do you want me to just sing it or what….No, don’t sing it…. sing it now before daddy comes back in I said….she did, but had a slight error…I said try one more time…it was ok…I said…don’t sing until I say so, that will be plan B for now…..

We ended up going to a local Mexican restaurant…hubby was sitting across from me….he said I looked pretty …..well I was hoping that would come up in the conversation…lol….So I smiled back and said pretty enough to have a baby….well he just smiled at first because I had asked a while back if we would be able to have just one more and he said no….but I was sitting there now with this huge grin on my face….and so about 15 seconds go by and then he says You’re pregnant aren’t you.

He smiled and put his hand over his forehead and dropped his head down…like what have I gotten myself into!  And then smiled afterwards..

Proof POSITIVE!!!! For those of you who are visual people

Soooooooo, we are looking at the end of August, the last week, the last three days possibly…..I’ve known for three weeks and today was the day that my cycle would start….but the curiosity got the better of me and I took the test on Thursday.

There is lots to get in place and get in gear to make sure I am at the top of my health.  I have been taking all my vitamin supplements and folic acid and Prenatals and Vitamin B’s, etc….

Don’t you all just hate buying vacuum’s once every 1.5 to 3 years!!!  Well my husband decided to buy a vacuum that would last a really long time…..

Say hello to my newest friend….One of those Dyson ball vacuum’s….wow, quiet, lightweight, ease of use it’s a dream!!

We have to share it with Tim at work once a month but the rest of the time it is here to help us out!!

Did you ever see a movie based on a 19^th century setting where the host has one of the daughters read a chapter from a book? What has happened to this family and social activity of reading aloud?

 

Children who have many opportunities to listen and read tend to become skilled thinkers, speakers and writers. The New York Times published an article by Verlyn Klinkenborg (May 16, 2009), on the lost art of reading aloud, saying, "... listening aloud, valuable as it is, isn't the same as reading aloud. Both require a great deal of attention. But one of the most basic tests of comprehension is to ask someone to read aloud from a book. It reveals far more than whether the reader understands the words. It reveals how far into the words--and the pattern of the words--the reader really sees.

 

Reading aloud recaptures the physicality of words. To read with your lungs and diaphragm, with your tongue and lips, is very different than reading with your eyes alone. The language becomes a part of the body, which is why there is always a curious tenderness, almost a sensational quality, in those 18th- and 19th-century literary scenes where a book is being read aloud in mixed company. The words are not mere words. They are the breath and mind, perhaps even the soul, of the person who is reading."

 

As I ponder this connection between reading aloud and a child's intellectual development, I am convinced that reading and hearing the Word of God is the foundation for one's spiritual development.

 

"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ" (Romans 10:17). I think I can now see the connection when Jesus read the words of Isaiah aloud when he visited the temple. Perhaps reading the Scriptures and other great books aloud in our homes and churches should have a rebirth--it may lead to a rebirth and awakening of our souls.

The big Orange Box Arrived!!!

Wednesday afternoon, the UPS came with a package…I saw the label said Shutterfly!!!  I was pretty surprised as I had only put my order in on Monday!  Well this was a great delight as the email said it could take up to a week for it to arrive and now I can actually get some cards out in the mail before the actual holiday.

I must say, if it had not been for the holiday promotion by Shutterfly, I would never have been able to afford to purchase this type of greeting card.  The actual bill for these 50 cards would have been around $71.00 and then there was shipping on top of that.

So, I am very grateful that I have photo cards for the very first time and I am also thankful that we were able to choose a card that fits with our family…we put in the entire verse of John 3:16, which goes with our thoughts about the meaning of this time of year.  I figure most people are probably going to tear the bottom half of the card off anyhow, but We really like that you can have close ups of the children on one side and on the back side there is a family picture to enjoy as well.

Here are a few pictures of the cards…the photo’s themselves…well, you have already seen those .

I give high marks to Shutterfly for the speedy turn around considering they are probably printing off thousands of cards a day right now to fulfill orders.  I would hesitate to give high marks for the quality of the images on the paper.

So, I am not sure if the promotional orders were processed slightly different than regular paying orders or if we just happened to be in the last batches before they changed the printer cartridges or if this is just standard for Shutterfly…I am just not sure what to think.

A friend of mine from church was able to participate in the same promotion and had ordered Matt photo’s and said her pictures came out grainy as well.  The one thing that we did decide was that if the picture is across the room on the refrigerator or cork board….you won’t see the graininess, you will just see a picture of the family .

Regardless, this was a wonderful blessing to my family and I am thankful there are promotions like this out on the internet to participate in.

Guarding the Home…Nancy Campbell

ON ALL FRONTS!

"Appoint guards from the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each at

his post, and each in front of his house" (Nehemiah 7:3).

God is very concerned about guarding. We don't have to wait

long in the Bible to learn the principle. When God put Adam

and Eve in the Garden of Eden He told them to work in it and

guard it! (Genesis 2:15) To guard a home is high on God's

priority. We turn over from the first book of the Bible to the

last and find that God has twelve angels guarding the twelve

gates of the New Jerusalem. (Revelation 21:12) If it is

important for God to have angels guarding each gate of His

holy city, then surely it is important to guard the gates of our

homes.

 

We go to 1 Chronicles 9:17-27 and see the gate-keeping

Levites guarding the house of the Lord in Solomon's time,

just as their ancestors had guarded the tabernacle in the

wilderness. They guarded "the entrance" and they guarded

"the four sides, to the east, west, north and south... And they

spent the night around the house of God, because the watch

was committed to them."In Nehemiah we read that they

appointed guards, "each in front of his house."

 

We are also gate-keepers, guarding on all fronts! We can

never let down our guard. The enemy is subtle and he is out

to destroy marriages and fragment godly homes. The

biggest threat to his success is godly gate-keeping mothers

who will not allow one opening for him to enter their home.

They watch at their entrance and they watch on every side.

They watch what their children listen to, look at, read and

even what they speak! They check what is happening on the

Facebook accounts of their children. They establish God's

standard of righteousness in their home, not the world's

standard. Consequently, when the enemy comes running to

attack he comes to a screeching halt at the gates of this

righteous home! He has no access! No loop holes to get in!

And he bows! Proverbs 14:19 says, "The evil bow before

the good: and the wicked at the gates of the righteous."

 

One of the greatest ways we guard is by example. Your

children see whether you have courage to act according to

your conscience or whether you compromise. Sometimes

on the weekend the extended family will come and we

watch a family movie together. We have a big screen for

our songs at church so we can play the movie on the big

screen. It is sad that we sometimes find a scene that is not

wholesome, even with family movies! What do we do?

We have to immediately stop the movie-that's the end of

that, even though we could be tempted to see the ending!

But the children are watching. By our example they are

going to learn to stand strong with their conscience or

compromise!

 

An Above Rubies helper asked Evangeline how she guards

her 10 children. She replied, "We train them to be

gate-keepers themselves. We train their conscience. We

teach them righteous principles and train them to keep to

them, not just when people are looking, but to be true to

their own soul."

 

We cannot weaken in training our children. Proverbs 29:15

NASB says, "The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child

who gets his own way brings shame to his mother." You

leave your children unguarded when you let them get their

own way. You are teaching them how to give into

temptation. You are setting them up to be a prey to the

enemy!  You are preparing them to have a turbulent

marriage. The diligent gate-keeping mother will teach her

children how to say No to the temptations of the flesh.

 

We also guard our home by conducting Family Devotions

with our family each day, morning and evening if possible.

It is hard for the enemy to take hold when we read God's

Word and pray together each day as a family. In Chronicles

8:13-14 NASB tells us that, "Solomon offered burnt

offerings to the Lord on the altar of the Lord... and did so

according to the daily rule... he appointed the Levites for

their duties of praise and ministering before the priests

according to the daily rule..." *This was a daily rule God

expected of His people, morning and evening.

 

"What's all this business about a daily rule?" you argue.

"Isn't that religiosity and legality? Shouldn't we do it when

we feel the urge? I don't like the sound of duty." Yes, I am

sure that it could become tedious if it is done without the

anointing of the Holy Spirit who illumines the Word. 2

Corinthians 3:6 tells us that the "letter kills" but the Spirit

gives life. But how can a "daily rule" be legality when we

are reading LIFE GIVING WORDS? Jesus said, "The

words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are

life" (John 6:63). God's life-giving words, anointed by the

Holy Spirit will guard your marriage and your children

from the deceptions of the enemy. Read also Hebrews 4:12

and 2 Peter 1:3-4. Sadly many marriages are no longer

together because they never established the daily rule of

praying and reading God's Word together. Many families

are in disarray because they have not gathered together

daily around the Word of God which is our manual for life.

 

May the enemy be scared of you as you guard the entrance

to your home! Guard your home on all sides! Give no

foothold for the devil.

Betheelou had a drawing on her blog for the holidays…I honestly did not think I would end up winning as I entered late and I made some facetious comment about making it into the top 30 and that perhaps that might help me win…..

Wow, was I surprised when I had a message letting me know that her son had drawn my name….you can see that post here!

So today by big huge box arrived….well let me restate that…I walked by the front window today and there was my big box on my table on the front porch…I am thinking the mail lady came extremely late yesterday after we had left to go to a church function in the early evening and I did not see it until this morning…..

Wooo Whooo, goodies and blessings galore were inside….

Well here, I’ll share with ya’ll!!!

Laying right inside was a package of holiday fragrance…oh it just smelled so delicious, my house has been smelling delightful all day long!!!  I can’t wait to get up tomorrow morning and smell it when I come out!!!

All the goodies nestled inside…there was one small casualty in shipping…the candle holder was broken into three pieces…but everything else made it just perfect Beth!!!

 

Here is a picture of everything out on the counter…..Wasn’t this just delightful of Beth to put together!!

 

This watch is so beautiful, I tried to capture it, but of course pictures just don’t do it justice.  I wore it all day long and to church this evening .

Thoughts on Chapter one Fasting

Well this was supposed to be Chapters one and two combined, however, so far, I only have Chapter one completed.

I will be posting snippets/text from the book that spoke to my heart and post thoughts as they apply…some may not have explanations the text may just speak for itself…

“It is part of God’s commitment to prepare the Church for the soon coming time of glory and crisis in the End Times.” 

This is the second time I have heard recently about being prepared for when we are in Heaven. I understand that we are always to be following God’s word, should be following his commandments, not caught sleeping when the time comes….Most of what I just said though is from the perspective of what I need to do…I have never heard this perspective that God would be doing something to prepare us and our hearts….maybe that was always implied through following his word…he would be preparing us that way….

I have heard about fasting before, the concept, I have seen a word or two in the bible that mention fasting….but I think my mind chose to not grasp ahold of that concept because it would force me to get out of my flesh, force me to surrender more of my will, out of my comfort zone if you will. To say you are going to fast…wow, I would just think people would think I am off the deep end so to speak if you would pardon the slang…just way to extreme, too conservative….and why is that??? Because there are not enough bible believing, walking, talking Christians that truly follow His word!!!  There are not enough examples “out there” modeling how we are to put into practice God’s instructions.  It is no wonder that the Muslim religion is growing faster than that of Christianity….we have more Christians right now but they are only Christians in name only, the practices God set forth in his word are being ignored, passed over and treated as non-important…..sigh….

The Lord is doing a wonderful magnificent work in my life these last weeks..building up a fervor for Him that is unexplainable, unquenchable…drawing me closer to Him.

“With boldness Jesus emphasized that the Father rewards fasting (Matthew 6:17,18)…It is not secondary”

It seems to me that this statement, “It is not secondary”, is right up there next to Matthew 23:38-39 This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  It is not an option to choose to do it, it is required.

“the rewards He gives are not earned or deserved by us because of our fasting.”  It is only by his grace that we are saved in the first place.  We can never do anything to seek his rewards if we do receive them it is just additional grace on His part.

Our Dilemma: We Need To Experience God’s Love

“fasting is one of the most practical ways to posture our hearts to experience more of God’s affection and love.”

I can see this is an area I have been sadly missing out…to thirst after God so much and to realize I have missed so many golden opportunities through this practice to have that closer more intimate relationship with Him….

“rooted in living from a false identity based on the way people receive us, rather than on how God receives us…..” 

Oh my, hand held up in the air over here..I think I touched on this up above but even more significant….just missing entirely that concept most times that God is my Father in Heaven, my dad, the one who cares about me the most only first to my earthly father, that seeks to have those close personal relationships, those intimate times, to have that feeling like you are so excited for your dad to get home from work so you can jump in his lap to tell him all about your day…that kind of relationship…. I mean yes, we know we are to go to God with all our petitions but something about that special confidant, that he would be pleased with us to partake in fasting…..

“Our Creator is the only One who fully knows who we were deigned to be.”

“Our belief in His affection for us determines how we feel about ourselves, how we approach life, how we interact with others, and how we deal with setbacks and difficulties.”

Now see, that there above….I can completely relate to I am very upbeat, like “I have it together”…I think privately there are some issues I am working on and that is kind of what I touched on earlier with the Lord working in my life….I think at times when it comes to my relationship with my husband, I have a very low self-body-image….and that part about dealing with difficulties…there have been in my marital life that I think subconsciously I am still dealing with…that is probably for another post as I work through those issues… 

The one thing that I see though, is my thoughts grasping hold of this concept and seeing it as the key that unlocks the door to this self-imposed bondage that the  Lord never desired for me to have.  That is what is exciting, gets the blood stirred up, the adrenaline rushing, stoking the flames of this desire for this completeness with the Lord.

“It is the revelation of Jesus as our Bridegroom God and of us as His cherished Bride.” “Therefore, we must encounter Jesus as our Bridegroom God by positioning our hearts and lives in such a way that this revelation really takes root in us.”

As in a marriage with our earthly spouse, we share everything with our spouses…or we should, our desires, our needs, our frustrations our joys…so, I am thinking, this is the way it should be with Christ…that time of day when we have our prayers, let it be about having a normal conversation with God and letting him know all our heart is pondering….not just the requests that have burdened us down…the daily stuff as well….Just because He knows our thoughts doesn’t mean He doesn’t want to hear them out loud!

The Bridal Paradigm of the Kingdom of God

“..believers being given a position of indescribable privilege far beyond even what angels enjoy.”  “…an invitation to experience God’s affection and desire for us.”

This is the aspect of God that I have never had expressed to me before, this is what I find fascinating that God has affection for me and a desire to know me as intimately as I want to know him.

“As His Bride, we are in a position to experience God’s heart—His emotions, affections, and desire—for us.”

Are you sold out for Jesus, are you just so crazy and excited for him?  This just gives me goose bumps to think that he would be that excited about me!! “We begin to see ourselves as ones who have immense value to him.”

Ok, I have to stop for this evening, I have laundry to fold before tomorrow so my hubby has clean clothes for a business trip.  I still have another four pages left of Chapter one notes to go over and type out…they are going to have to be put on hold.  I am not sure when I will get back to posting since I will be on my own for the next few days.

The results of Controlled Chaos….Pictures…..

Well I received my coupon code from Shutterfly for writing up a blog post…and today was the day of taking pictures!!!

I love this little smile here…we might have to edit out that hand…the picture snapped before he could take it away.

I was telling my hubby he needed to smile more, he was too serious…just let loose and smile…

 

Well that is easily accomplished when you have a baby crawling toward the camera stand and the self-timer is already set in motion just about to take the picture….so the camera leans and leans and we tried to lean with it….
